While moving pieces over a chess board I find similarities between the movements in life and concepts of chess. These are real experiences I undergo both in life and over chessboard. I also like to dream about a new way of life where movements are more similar. When chess is a completely solved game, we may need to find out another game, a game for the future. This weblog belongs to that search process! A continous search!

More on zugzwuang

If you haven't read the first article on zugzwuang, I suggest you read that first click here

Corporate ladder is a good example of zugzwuang in real life. Once you started climbing the ladder, every now and then , you may like to stay calm and just be there, you don't want to move up any more. The option of going down is not exciting either :-) So this is the case, where you just don't want to move, but you must try to move up! Its the same tragedy like a player in zugzwuang over a chessboard.

In a more generilzed situation, everyone wants to move up in real life. It gets harder and harder as you go up. It becomes competitive and tiring. When one feels that way, (s)he wants to rest for a while, wants to hold that time! That's not possible when you are in the competitive game you started!

In these examples we compared "moving up in real life" with the "any move over the chessboard"; its not necessary that "moving up in real life" is the only example for zugzwuang in real life, but that's what we found so far!
